Last Month's Self Assignment Winners

Last month's self assignment was to create an image using a wide-angle lens. Thanks to our sponsor, FujiFilm, the winner receives 20 rolls of the Fuji professional film of their choice. The runners-up receive 10 rolls of the Fuji professional film of their choice.  Winners are notified by email.

Winner: Drummer, David L. Morel
David tells us "I was at a local renaissance fair and saw this vendor with his drum. I asked him to play the drum while I took his portrait. I purposely used a very slow shutter to get some movement with his hands. The flash, set to fire at the end of the exposure, helped balance out the exposure."

David captured the image using his Nikon D1 and Nikkor 17-35 f2.8 lens.  Exposure was 1/2 sec at f/22, his zoom set at 17mm.  The D1 was in 8 bit format, the meter mode was multi-segment,  aperture priority, exposure bias 0.333333, and the speed was set to ISO 200.

Dome, Peter Ng
Peter was asked to shoot for the orchestra and noticed the beautiful architecture of the theatre.  He was fortunate to have the his 18-35mm zoom which captured both subjects well.

Peter used a Nikon F100 with a Nikkor AFD 18-35mm at 18 mm. He bracketed exposures at F8 on Provia 400F.  The slides were scanned on imacon flextight.  A digital composite of two exposures, for the architecture, and orchestra were combined to create the final image.

Comical Horse, Rachel Bowen
Rachel tells us "I was at my godson's birthday party, and we were in the backyard looking at the beautiful horses in their neighbor's yard. I turned around to get some shots of my son with their new puppy, and I heard (and felt) this snort in my ear. So I turned around, and one of the horses must have been curious about my camera, because he wouldn't keep his nose out of the lens. He looked so comical through my lens, I had to shoot him. And this is what I got!

Taken with a Canon EOS Elan 7E, with a Canon EF 28-90mm lens at around 35mm. Shot at f/11 at 1/250 sec. with Fujicolor 400 film.
