Last Month's Self Assignment Winners

Last month's self assignment was "Water". The variety of images was staggering.

Winner, Glade Creek Grist Mill, Paul Silverman
This is the Glade Creek Grist Mill, located in Babcock State Park in West Virginia. Every fall I take a photo vacation, and when I saw a photograph of this mill in a magazine I knew that is where I was going. I met other photographers who did exactly the same. I remember telling one that I traveled “all the way from Delaware” to take this picture. He replied: “And I traveled all the way from Texas to take this picture.”

Paul used his Canon Elan 7 and Canon 100-300 f/5.6 L to capture this image onto Kodak Porta VC 160. The image was scanned using a Minolta Dimage Dual III. Paul made "saturation and other minor adjustments in Photoshop."

This is my favorite stream. It's located in Harriman/Bear Mountain State Park, NY.

I was able to time my trip there just a day or two after some heavy rain as the stream had been pretty low. The mist rising was a fortunate accident.

Bob used his Pentax PZ-1p and Sigma 28-105mm f4-5.6 mounted with a polarizor & 81B to capture this image onto Provia 100. It was scanned using a Canon FS2710 scanner. The color was enhanced slightly in Photoshop.

We have a Photography club that meets at our church. Because of the influence of Vivid Light Photography (yay!) we started giving ourselves self assignments.

One of the assignments a few months ago was water and this is the shot I took. It was taken with a set of close up filters in our kitchen. I wanted a colorful background but the only thing we could find that fit the bill was the cover of the phone book. My husband held that behind the sink while I took the shot.
