Joseph Polevoi, Chanukah Candles
"I wanted to really accent the bright patterns from Chanukah
candles in a traditional candle holder (Menorah). No flash was
used to achieve a golden glow effect. This photo is a single
exposure...a kaleidoscope attachment on the camera creates the
layered effect. The traditional play money is actually chocolates
wrapped in gold foil for the children to pretend they are ancient
coins."
Joe used his Maxxum 700si camera & Maxxum 28-85 lens
Fujichrome to capture the image onto Velvia 50 film. The color was
accented slightly and contrast increased slightly in Photoshop
after scanning with a Nikon LS-2000 film scanner. |

Leland Isley, Guitar Santa
"It’s a silly guitar playing Santa toy that a friend
gave to me."
"I gave it a little 'rock star' portrait treatment just
for fun."
Leland used his Nikon F100 and Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens with an
extension tube to capture the image onto Fuji Across 100 black
& white film. It was scanned with a Minolta 5400 and cropped
in Photoshop. |
Naveed Ahmad, New Years with Shooting Stars
After reading technical articles and reviewing some awesome shots
I was determined to take a good photograph of the fireworks this
time. So I reached the location early. Used the old technique of
picking up some soil and dropping it to find the wind direction
and chose a location on the bridge to include some reflections on
the water.
I used bulb exposure and covered the lens with a black card
during inactivity between the fireworks. This helped capturing
multiple displays on a single frame. The image is original, no
digital retouching, just resized in Photoshop.
To capture the image Naveed used a Canon EOS 10D and EF
28-135mm lens at 28mm. Exposure 16 sec @ f/16 & ISO 100. |
