Last Month's Self Assignment Winners

Last month's self assignment was to shoot people at work.  The winner receives 30 rolls of the Fuji professional film of their choice courtesy of B&H Photo Video.  The runners up receive 10 rolls of the Fuji professional film of their choice.

Winner: China Town Shop Window, Philadelphia
Bud Patron had been taking pictures of a China Town market from his truck.  Stopped at a light several blocks away he spotted this store window.  He grabbed his camera just as the shop owner stepped into the window to wait on a customer.  He tells us he shot half a roll of pictures of the market and none of them were keepers - but this grab shot won him first place.  We printed an 8x10 of this shot and you can almost taste the roast duck.  Canon EOS Elan II, Sigma 28-135 3.5-5.6 lens on Fuji Astia.

Key West Carpenters
These carpenters building a pier in Key West were getting an early start to beat the Caribbean heat when Tammy Sinclair captured them with her Nikon N70 and 28-105 3.5-5.6 lens on Kodak Extracolor 100.  "With the strong backlighting of the rising sun I never thought the shot would come out, I thought I'd loose all the detail."  At 8x10 you can make out the lettering on the saw blade.

New Orleans Street Musician

Tony Abruzzi caught this street musician singing for his supper in the French Quarter.  "Just as I snapped the picture a guy stepped in and handed him a buck".  "You can see his hand with the dollar, the guys face just lit up." Talk about capturing the decisive moment.

Pentax ZX-5N, Pentax 28-80 3.5-5.6, Kodak TMAX 400 black and white film.
